What Is Sickle Cell Anemia?

Sickle cell is a kind of red blood cell that turned into sickle shape because of some unhealthy genetic mutation. Normally, red blood cells are smooth and healthy in a healthy person. Red blood cells carry oxygenated blood throughout the body. If red blood celled shape changed, they become unable to carry oxygenated blood in body. This cause a disease called as sickle cell anemia. Anemia is a state of human body in which body don’t have lower level of red blood cells. Red blood cells are actually an iron based protein that produces red color in our blood and also carries oxygen from lungs to whole body.
Red blood cells have a normal life of almost 120 day. In case red blood cells become sickle, their life span would reduce to 8-10 days. Bone marrow forms red bold cell and it cannot form red blood cells after 10 days. That causes lack of hemoglobin or blood in human body and resulted in a disease named as sickle cell anemia. This disease is caused by genetic mutation of unhealthy red blood cells. There are almost 3.4 million people who have been suffering from this disease. The lower level of blood causes various problems in human body. It can damage lungs, heart, and respiratory system. It also affects bones and other human organs.
This disease is causing various complications in human body. To overcome this many sickle cell anemia treatment have been introduced. There is no permanent cure for this disease.
