Carrageenan, often referred to as nature’s perfect emulsifier and stabilizers
is a natural carbohydrate derived from red edible seaweeds known as Irish moss (common name for the Chrondus Crispus) and has been widely appreciated as
a food additive since the sixteenth century generally for
its ability to preserve the texture, structure and appearance to food items
thereby enabling the production of much more desirable products.
Carrageenan is massively planted and harvested by approximately 1000,000
farms on five different continents even without the use of fertilizers or
pesticides and as such makes the farming of carrageenan very
eco-friendly and serves as habitats for aquatic creatures. It is manufactured
using a really simple process involving boiling the red seaweed in water, filtering, and addition of alcohol, drying and
finally grinding into fine powder
